Job Summary

The Maintenance Assistant at Netcare Hospitals (Pty) Limited plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of our hospital facilities. This position supports the maintenance team in delivering high-quality patient care environments by performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks and assisting skilled technicians.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, including checking and cleaning equipment, replacing filters, and lubricating moving parts.
• Assist skilled technicians (e.g., electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians) with repairs and installations, including carrying tools, fetching parts, and providing support as directed.
• Conduct minor repairs such as patching walls, changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and unblocking drains.
• Inspect facilities regularly to identify and report any maintenance needs or safety hazards.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and time spent.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
• Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
• Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment or furniture as required.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintenance workshops.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and contractors.

Job Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities support role, preferably within a healthcare environment, is advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
• Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A valid driver's license may be required.
