About the role:
The purpose of the Driving Instructor role is to develop, train, and assess drivers to ensure safe, compliant and efficient transport operations within Transrite. The Driving Instructor is responsible for planning and facilitating both classroom-based and practical on-the-job training programmes that equip drivers with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to meet operational, safety, and legislative requirements. The role contributes to the continuous improvement of driver performance through coaching, mentoring, performance assessments, and constructive feedback. The Driving Instructor further supports driver development initiatives by assisting with learnership recruitment, providing input into the development of training material and promoting a culture of road safety and operational excellence. Working closely with management and operational teams, the role ensures that training interventions align with business objectives, improve driver competence, and support the delivery of safe, reliable and efficient transport services.
What you'll do:
- Prepare and coordinate driver training schedules.
- Facilitate classroom and on-the-job driver training programmes.
- Provide input into the development and continuous improvement of training material.
- Coach and mentor drivers to improve performance and safety standards.
- Conduct driver assessments and evaluate training outcomes.
- Provide regular feedback to management on trainee progress and training effectiveness.
- Assist with the recruitment and selection processes for driver learnership programmes.
- Support the planning and execution of Driver of the Year competitions.
- Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
- Assist in other operational areas as required.
What you bring:
- Grade 12 / Matric qualification. (Essential)
- Relevant driving experience, with a minimum of 3 years' experience operating Code 14 vehicles. (Essential)
- Registered with the relevant SETA, (Essential)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills. (Essential)
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop individuals from diverse backgrounds. (Essential)
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications. (Essential)
- Strong organisational and administration skills. (Essential)
- Commitment to safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. (Essential)
- Ability to work effectively with drivers, operational teams, and management. (Essential)
- Previous driver training or driving instructor experience. (Essential)
- Experience facilitating classroom-based or practical driver training. (Essential)
- Experience assessing driver competency and performance. (Advantageous)
- Experience within a transport, logistics, or fleet environment. (Advantageous)
- Exposure to learnership programmes and skills development initiatives. (Advantageous)
- Knowledge of or experience with DriveRisk, DriveCam, or similar driver performance and monitoring systems.(Advantageous)
